TO PROTECT THE FLAXMILLS.

After a conflagration at one of the flaxmills on the river bank, some time since, we suggested that the millers should combine and purchase a manual engine in order to combat the tirey elements should they again threaten the mills with destruction. Since then further damage has been wrought by fire which we feel certain could have been minimised had the suggestion mentioned been acted upon. The cost of an engine, hose and reel would not amo.unt to a great sum. In this connection we see no reason why a “grant in aid” should not be forthcoming trom the owners of green flax, who are also interested in the running of the mills. The other objections are not insuperable. The scheme is the best insurance against fire that presents itself, and we again commend the suggestion to the serious consideration of millers.
