The Manawatu Herald. Thursday, May 19, 1910. HARBOUR BOARD AFFAIRS.
Yesterday’s special meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board was somewhat marred by a display of irrascibility of temper on the part of the Chairman. His personal attack on Palmerston’s representative was undeserved and regretable, and no doubt the Chairman now views it in that light. We have no desire to make further reference to the unfortunate incident except to point out that the Board is at present faced with a serious problem, the solving of which requires unity of purpose and action. There may be differences of opinion as to methods of procedure, yet individual views have a right to consideration- It does not always follow that in “the multitude of councillors there is wisdom” but in the particular case in question we are satisfied that the policy to be adopted should be the outcome of the collective intelligence of the Board. As we previously stated we believe the best interests of tne port will be studied by waiting upon the Minister as a Board, backed up by shipping and other interests rather than a ministerial buttonholing process. The Board intend to adopt this course.
