INSTALLATION OF MAYOR.
Mr George H. Stiles was last night installed as Mayor of the Borough of Foxton for another term. After making the statutory declaration his Worship said that it affoided him great satisfaction to again take his seat at the table as Mayor. It was indeed a pleasure to sit with such a set of councillors as Foxton had at present. He should have liked an election for the position, in order to test the feeling of the ratepayers, but that they had allowed him to be re-elected unopposed was sufficient ground for believing that his efforts during the previous term had been appreciated, and he could assure them that he would always do his utmost for the welfare of the borough. He referred to the very satisfactory year that had just passed, and the amount of work that had been carried out with the funds at their disposal. He also briefly touched on some of the work to be carried out during the present year. Another matter that he intended to bring forward at a future meeting was the erection of a Municipal Town Hall, which was one of the pledges he had made on his election the previous year. He concluded by thanking the Councillors for their assistance during the past year. Cr Speirs welcomed the Mayor back. He said it was a pleasure to sit at the Council table and have the business conducted in the manner it had been during the past twelve months. The chair had been filkd most ably, which fact was appreciated by all the Councillors.
Cr Ross endorsed Cr Speir’s remarks and the business of the meeting was then proceeded with.
