Local business places closed today, from xi. 45 a.m. til 1.30 p.ra., in honour of the proclamation of King George V. The secretary of the Awahou Foootball Club desires to publicly acknowedge receipt of a donation of £2 2s from Mr H. S. Munro.
Mr T. East had the misfortune to lose six one pound notes on Saturday night. A reward of £2 is offered for their return. The funeral of the late King Edward VII., will take place ten days after King George V. has been proclaimed King—that will be Friday week, 20th inst.
The tennis euchre party and dance is to be held in the Masonic Hall on Wednesday week, 18th inst., and not Thursday as previously stated.
The Mayor convenes a meeting of ministers of the various churches, councillors and the public to decide what programme shall be adopted for the holding of a combined memorial service of the late king. The meeting will be held on Friday next in the Council Chambers.
We are informed by the local postmaster that it is a close season for the shooting of native game (ducks, pukeko and swans). Licenses, however, will be issued for the shooting of quail and hares-
Special references were made in the local churches on Sunday to the King's death. The pulpit of the Presbyterian Church was draped in black. We are informed that a united service is to be held at an early date.
The Town Clerk’s and Borough Treasurer’s reports submitted and adopted at last night’s Borough Council meeting will appear in Thursday's issue, as will also the estimates of receipts and expenditure for the ensuing year.
At last night’s Council meeting it was decided, on the motion of Cr Robinson, seconded by Cr Stewart, that the Council establish a municipal coal depot in Foxton. A full report of the discussion on this question will appear in our next issue.
Messrs O’Connor and Tydeman publish in this issue a replace advt., reiening to alarm clocks. The local postmaster received a telegram from the Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department yesterday stating that the post office was to be closed all day to-day except between the hours of 9 and roa-m. and 7 and 8 p.m, and the telegraph office to be opened from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and f' m 7 to 8 p.m.
