Gisborne, March 30. A destructive fire broke out in Gladstone road at 8.15 p.m. The fire started at the back of the drapery store of P. Hallam and went to an empty doublestorey building on one side, and to a small laundry business premises on the other side.

The rain and the intervening brick wall saved the fire . from catching the large two-storeyed wooden shop and premises ot Fred Hall.

The drapery store and laundry premises were completely destroyed, and only the walls left standing. The buildings were insured, but neither of the shops’ contents. The amount of insurance is unobtainable to-night.
