FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the boxton Harbour Board was held in the Council Chamber on Tuesday evening. Present: —Messrs G. 11. Stiles (chairman), W. 'J'. Wood, P. J. Ilennessy, B. R. Gardener, and J. A. Nash. An apology lor absence was received from Mr J. G. Wilson.

The Chairman’s report on the work done during the twelve months the Board had been in existence was adopted, and the members congratulated Mr Stiles on the excellent report sent in. Correspondence was read from the Feilding Borough Council, advising that Mr H. Tolley had been re-appointed that Council’s representative on the Board. —Received.

From the Moutoa Drainage Board, asking Board to pay one third of rent of office for past twelve months, and offering use of same on similar terms as long as the same Clerk acts for both bodies. —-It was decided that the Drainage Board be asked to remit any charge for the past year, but that the Board will agree to the terras mentioned for the ensuing year.

From Messrs Sanson and Bowater, advising that their cottage at the Beach encroaches six feet on to the adjoining section and asking that that section be reserved for them at the upset rental, without the condition of erecting another building to the value of £ 6O. —It was decided that Messrs Sanson and Bowater be informed that the Board cannot accede to their request, but that the six feet be added to their section and deducted from the adjoining one. The lessees to pay cost of surveying if necessary. From the Secretary of the Harbour Association, forwarding application form for enrolment as member of the Association. —It was decided that the chairman (Mr Henuessy) and Mr Stiles affix the seal of the Board to same.

A telegram was read from the Secretary for Marine, advising that if the Board desired to have their pilot examined a by-law must be made in manner prescribed by the Act. —It was decided to have the pilot examined. The Secretary reported the amount to credit at the Bank of New Zealand was ixs. Since last meeting the sum of 14s had been placed to credit representing pilotage for January 9s 6d, pilotage for February /31 14s 6d and rent of flaxmill site £2 1 os. The Harbourmaster salary and assiftaut’s labour 18s xod has been paid as authorised. At a special meeting held in Palmerston North on the 26th ultimo to consider an application from the West Coast Steamship and Trading Co. Ltd., for permission to erect a wharf at Foxton. It was decided to grant a license at a rental of £5 per annum on conditions to be arranged and that all wharfages be paid to this Board as soon as plans are approved by the Marine Department as provided by the Harbour Act. Accounts amounting to ~£4O xos lid and members travelling expenses to date were passed for payment. Mr Nash introduced Mr MeMurray, manager of the West Coast Steamship and Trading Company Ltd., who said that his compady were quite agreeable to pay the license fee, and also to pay the wharfages to the Board, but they considered that the Board should give them a letter of indemnity against any claim made for wharfages by the railway department. Further, his company thought that they should be allowed a slight reduction in the wharfages fees considering the expense they would be put to by the erection of the wharf. He asked the Board to give the matter their attention at some future meeting. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Foxton Borough Council returning the Board’s thanks for the use of the Council Chamber for meetings. The Board rose at 10.10 p.m.
