BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING
The monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held in the Council Chamber last night. Present; His Worship the Mayor (G. H. Stiles, Esq.), and Crs Ritnmer, Ross, Coley, Gibbs, Adams, Levett, Speirs and Robinson.
Correspondence was read from the Secretary of the Discharged Prisoners Aid Society forwarding annual report and asking for subscriptions towards funds. —Decided to vote £1 is. From the Stationmaster, complaining of the way in which the sanitary contractor is carrying out his duties.
From the Secretary for Education, advising that no provision had been made this year for sbsidisiug public libraries.
From Mr A. D. Thomson, S.M., confirming decision of electors in reference to closing portion of Thyune Street and selling land to adjoining owners.
It was decided on the motion of Cr Ross, seconded by Cr Levett, that on and after March Ist next all unregistered dogs be collected and destroyed and that Mr E. J. Martin be offered 2s 6d per head for this work.
Accounts amounting to £go gs 5d were passed for payment.
It was decided to form a footpath on both sides of Cook Street between Main and Johnston Streets and also on the northern side of the Avenue and to repair footpath on Avenue from Mauawatu Hotel to Johnston Street.
The Council went into committee to discuss the water and drainage schemes and on resuming passed a resolution to the effect that only one issue —x loan of £20,000 for a combined water and drainage system— be placed before the ratepayers, and also that a special meeting of the Council be held on Thursday, February 24 at 7.30 p.m., to confer with Mr Climie.
The Council rose at 10.10 p.m
