WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY DISCOVERY.
Adki.aidk, February 14,
A quite unexpected discovery of the properties of radiumbearing mineral has just been made In connection with the installation of wireless telegraphy between Melbourne and Clifton Springs. It has been found that by the use of radio-active ores in the installation, the transmission of messages is strikingly facilitated. Steps will be taken to protect the discovery. The first experiments were made with Bohemian pitch-blend, but by accident some ore was used from the radio hill mine at Olary. This demonstrated that through some unknown quality, South Australian carnotite ore, which contains 50 per cent, of uranium oxide, is much superior to Bohemian pitch-blend for the purposes of wireless telegraphy.
