WEDDING.

hockley—McMillan

A wedding was celebrated at the Anglican Church, Levin, on Wednesday last, of special local interest, when Mr Paul Hockley, late of Palmerston North, and son of Mr Wm. Hockley, of Christchurch, was united to Miss Elsie Isabel McMillan, only daughter of the late Mr J. R. McMillan, merchant, of Foxton. The Rev. G. S. Compton officiated. The ■bride is a well-known local young lady and a general favorite, and a granddaughter of two of Foxton’s oldest identities, in the persons of the late Mr and Mrs A. J. Whyte. The bride was given away by her uncle, Mr J. R. Whyte, of Tokomaru. She looked charming in an Empire gown of cream charmeuse, with the usual veil and orange blossoms and carried a handsome shower bouquet. The bridesmaids were Miss Agnes Hockley, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Eella Gray, of Marton, and late of Foxton. The former wore a pink dress of silk taffeta, and the latter pale blue crepe de chine. Both wore cream hats and carried pink shower bouquets. Mr William Corbett, Eondon, acted as best man, and Mr H. D. Batchelar was groomsman. Mrs J. R. McMillan (mother of the bride) wore a frock of grey silk voile with violet hat, and carried a bouquet of violet sweet peas. Mrs Walter Barber wore a brown tailor-made costume, with brown hat with roses. Mrs E. P. Cowles, pale blue costume with large black hat. Mrs E. E. Smith, pink and white shantung, with floral hat- Mrs J. R. Whyte, brown tailor-made costume. After the ceremony a reception was held at “Wharema,” the residence of Mr and Mrs E. E. Smith. The bride’s travelling dress was a sax blue costume with hat to match. Numerous and costly wedding presents from friends in Foxton and Palmerston North testified to the popularity of the bride and bridegroom. The honeymoon is being spent in Napier.
