TOWN CLERKS REPORT.

-' Rie'-ite 1 -C'ltfl' at last night’s meeting as follows : The following work has been done by the roadman ; Cut grass in cemetery at a cost of £6 15s 6d, including £2 for machine. I have since sold the hay for £2 which brings the actual cost down to £4 15s od. The holes in footpath in Avenue in front of Manawatu Hotel have been filled with asphalt and the whole footpath from there to junction of Main Street has been tarred and sanded. Victoria Park track was put in order for New Year’s sports, the water tables of Main Street were cleaned, grass cut in Triangle reserve, one or two holes in Avenue were filled with metal, the newly planted trees in Park Road have had all grass cleared away from their stems, pump at triangle has been repaired and the entry to Library and Reading Room has been cleaned up. At Victoria Park corner, on Park Street, there were some roots upstanding which were dangerous to traps, and these have been removed. During the month the seat presented by Councillor Ross for the triangle arrived and has been duly placed in the enclosure. In accordance with the request of the Council, I have gone into the matter of carting for the past year, in order to ascertain what was the actual amount expended, and I find that the borough carter was employed at the rate of S2 days during the year, the cost of which was £57 Ss, in addition to that the Council paid 5s 6d in carting contracts making a total of £197 13s 6d. Mr Andrew Jonsou, the Inspector of Nuisances and Borough Sexton, who has not been at all well during the past month, applies for three weeks leave of absence from the Ist. of February to enable him to go to Rotorua. He states that he has made arrangements with Mr John Collins to carry out his duties in his absence, and I recommend that the leave asked for, be granted. Roadman McGill was paid off on the 24th December.
