PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
A meeting of the district committee of the Foxton Presbyterian Church was held at Glen Oroua yesterday. The Moderator {Rev I. Jolly) presided and there were present the Rev G. K. Aitken, Messrs Gibbs and Hornblow (Foxton), H. Wilton (Oroua Bridge), Costall, Young, Farmer and Amon (Glen Oroua), Matheson, H. Rowland, H. McCully and M. Richardson (Tiakitahuna).
The balance sheet for the past quarter was submitted and received and disclosed the finances of the charge in a healthy condition. A lengthy discussion took place in respect to the raising of the status of the charge to that of a fully sustained one and a report is to be brought down by the Treasurer at the next quarterly meeting allocating the amount each centre will be expected to raise per annum. The increase mentioned was 25 per cent. The action of the local committee in purchasing the lease of a section at the Beach was indorsed, and it was stated that a building for public worship would be ready at an early date. It was decided to open a horse fund account and special collections for this purpose were sanctioned.
A letter was received from the Treasurer of the New Century Fund, stating that application for a loan of for alterations to the manse had been granted, and could now be obtained. Messrs Matheson, Wilton, Gibbs and Hornblow were appointed to supervise the alterations to the manse.
Other minor business was transacted, after which the delegates were hospitably entertained at lunch by Messrs Farmer and Amon.
