VISIT OF THE PALMERSTON BOY SCOUTS.

The Palmerston Boy Scouts to the number of nearly twenty accompanied by Messrs Davidson and Sharpe formed a camp at the Beach on Friday last. Since arriving at the camp they have been doing a good deal of scouting work and covered the country between the Heads and Foxton, and northwards up the coast, and extensive notes have been made which will be of great use in future operations. The boys have had an excellent time, and when off duty have employed themselves bathing, boating, and fishing; they declare that they have had a ‘‘ripping” time and are looking forward to another visit to the Beach in the future. From Beach residents we have learned that the conduct of the boys has been of a most exemplary character and reflects the greatest credit on Messrs Davidson and Sharpe, who have the corp in charge. On Sunday morning the boys attended a church parade in the Presbyterian Church and took a hearty part in the service. The Rev. G. K. Aitken was the preacher and made special reference to the presence of the boys, and drew practical lessons from the character of their duties, for the higher life’s claims and dangers. Yesterday afternoon Mr Aitken visited the boys at their camp and addressed them for about ten minutes. Referring to the duties of a scout, Mr Aitken advised them when on the alert to discover the character of evil influences and evil habits. Making particular mention of evil companionships, and the influences they create, of the cigarette, alcohol, and other evils, he advised them to regard these as real dangers to them individually aud to the community, and urged the lads to keep them at arm’s length. A pleasant time was spent aud hearty good byes expressed. The boys leave the Beach for the railway station eu route for Palmerston on Saturday morning, and will make a halt at the Presbyterian Manse for refreshments previous to entraining.
