The Maritime Accidents Bill of McDareu, which has passed its first reading proposes, among other things, that if any passenger on a New Zealand ship suffers loss or damage in person or property by any maritime accident he shall be entitled to maintain an action for damages notwithstanding any contract, condition, or notice made or given to the contrary. The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Wellington Empowering Bill, which has been read a first time, is to enable the Archbishop to raise money on the security of church lands to erect a boarding school for girls in Hawkestone street, and school, church and other buildings at Carterton.
