SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the above was held in the schoolhouse on Thursday evening last. Present -Messrs Hornblow (chairman), Betty, Bullard, Geo, Coley, Levett, Henderson, Alex. Speirs, Read and the headmaster and first assistant. An apology was received from the secretary (Mr Aitken).

Correspondence was received in reference to mi nature cadet range and referred to the captain of the local cadet corps. The headmaster’s report stated the attendance for the month was 277.3. out of an average roll number of 318.5, making a percentage of 87. The present roll number is 324. The annual inspection visit took place on Thursday, October 14th, when there were 307 children present. The report, which also dealt with other minor matters was received.

It was resolved to carry out certain repairs asked for by the headmaster. —The committee expressed its willingness to render what assistance it could to further the school concert. —It was decided to have the school piano tuned and repaired at once.' —Resolved to employ the school cleaner to clean out the roof gutters,—Permission was granted to the Horticultural Society to hold the forthcoming show in the old buildings;—The Chairman reported that he had received a letter from the Chief Inspector in which he stated that he had seen Mr Izaac and endeavoured to impress upon him the desirability of the Department making a grant for a cooking room at Foxton. Mr Braik said that Mr Izaac’s attitude was non-com-mittal, but he thought that it was not adverse to the proposal.—lt was decided to write to Mr Izaac urging him to recommend the expenditure for cooking class equipment. —It was resolved to grant a holiday on the occasion of Peoples’ Day of the Palmerston Show. — Messrs Bullard and Coley were appointed visitors for the month. Several accounts were passed for payment. It was decided to present last year’s good attendance certificates to the winners, together with those obtaining same this year, at the school concert.
