HEMP MARKET. The High Commissioner cabled at noon yesterday as follows : Hemp market firm, but offerings very small ; reports from Manila indicate light shipments from there to London ; quotations are nominal ; New Zealand good fair grade on spot, per ton £26 ss; New Zealand fair grade on spot per ton spot per ton £25 10s ; OctoberDecember shipments, N.Z, good fair grade per ton, £26 ; N.Z. fair grade per ton £ 2 5 ; fair current Manila per ton £25 10s; Manila output, 21,000 bales. WOOE SALES. London, Sept. 25. At the wool sales the following prices were realised for the clips named : Gear, per lb; Auburn, Eesbania, At to-day’s wool sales there was keen competition, and prices were fully maintained. American buyers were active. PRICES HARDENING. London, September 26. The wool sales are still brisk, the prices realised being the highest for the series. All sorts and all selections are competing. A hardening tendency in prices is everywhere apparent. Hastings clip, The quantity of wool catalogued to date is 41,700 bales, and the quantity sold 40,003 bales. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The mutton market is quiet, but holders are firm, as the shipments now arriving are very small. Trade is very disappointing, being only of a hand-to-mouth demand. Canterbury North Island S'/ad. The lamb market is quiet, with a demand for heavy-weights, on account of a shortage of lightweights. Canterbury lamb 3f£d, North Island 3-}^d.

The beef market is weaker with a downward tendency. Supplies of River Plate beef are heavy. New Zealand hindquarter 3%d, forequarters 2^d. The butter market is quiet, but firm. The demand has fallen off considerably on account of the high price. Nominally there is no change in prices. New Zealand 118 s per cwt., Australian 114 s, Danish 1245, Siberian 106 s. The cheese market is quiet. Prices are slightly weaker. New Zealand 57s 6d, Canadian 56s 6d. The cocksfoot market is very quiet, with nothing doing. The average price of New Zealand cocksfoot seed, 171 b per bushel, on the spot, is 655. The wheat market is a shade weaker. New Zealand long-berried wheat, on the spot, ex granary, per quarter of 4961 b, 39s ; New Zealand short-berried, 38s 6d.
