ALL SAINTS’.

AN IMPORTANT CERE-

MONY,

All Saints’ Church last Sunday morning was filled to overflowing, the occasion being a Confirmation Service. Twenty-eight candidates presented themselves to his Lordship the Bishop of Wellington, who administered to them the sacred rife and who delivered two addresses. The text in the first one was taken from the Acts of the Apostles, chapter XXII, verse 27, when Paul was brought before the Centurion who ordered him to be scourged and Paul said “ is it lawful for you to scourge a Roman and uncondemned” and later on said, “be was free born.” These remarks were addressed to the candidates and the Bishop pointed out that they were freeborn, buti now they had been confirmed they had greater privileges that) Paul being under the protection of the Almighty. The text for the second address was taken from Exodus, chapter XII and part of verse. 12., relative to the Feast of the Passover at the lime when the Angel of Death smote the firstborn of the Egyptians, but where the Israelites smeared the blood of a lamb on the lintel and side posts they were all spared. He urged the candidates and congregation to follow the example of the Israelites by frequent celebrations of the Holy Communion, thus being iu a similar position as the Israelites. There was a full choir and excellent music was rendered. In the afternoon the Bishop, accompanied by the vicar, went out iu Mr F. S. Easton’s car to Himitaugi, where an afternoon service was held to a large congregation. In the evening at All Saints’ there was another large attendance but it was a disappointment to those who had not been able to attend Matins, when the vicar announced from the pulpit that the Bishop, owing to indisposition was unable to attend.
