A HUSBAND VINDICATED.
Judgment in a recent Wanganui divorce suit was delivered by Mr Justice Chapman on Saturday. When the case was heard Mr Wilford appeared for the petitioner Nellie Mora Robertson, and Mr Treadwell for the respondent, Edward Robertson. The petition for the divorce was on the ground of desertion. His Honour said that he could not find that the respondent had broken any legal duty towards petitioner, unless she had been forced to leave her home, and he could not say, in the face of the evidence, that she had been forced to do sb. Respondent was an industrious man, and had been in uninterrupted employment five eighteen years. He had built for cottages at Castlecliff, and nearly paid for them. A substantial part of the cost had come from the savings of his wages, which were 6s 6d per day. A considerable portion of the work of erecting them had been done by himself in his spare time, he often working till midnight. This did not leave room for excessive drinking. Petitioner’s case had entirely failed, and the petition would be dismissed. .
