RANG FIT KEI SEAT. Wanganui, August 19. It is stated that the following will be candidates for the Rangitikei seat, vacant through Mr Remington’s death: Messrs George Hutchison, W. Meldrum, R. Smith, A. C. Mannington, F. Hockley, H. Canton, A. Joblin, R. E. Hornblow and M, J. Reardon. Mr Meldrum is a solicitor practising at Hunterville, Mr Smith, who will have heavy support from the sawmilling interests, and also from many of the farming community around Taihape, opposed Mr Remington at the’last general election, and was defeated by only 137 votes. Mr Hutchinson is well known on account of his former Parliamentary career, and will no doubt make a big bid for the seat. The indications are that the fight will be between Messrs Hutchinson, Smith, and Meldrum.
