THE HEMP INDUSTRY.
LOCAL GRADING RETURNS FOR JULY.
Mr Petrie, local hemp grader, graded 1,400 bales of hemp for the month ending the 31st July. This total is an increase of 889 bales over the corresponding month of 1908. The climatic conditions prevailing at this time of the year make good bleaching a matter of considerable difficulty. • In most cases the hemp gave evidence of greater care in Fielding than formerly, and in our method of production, this is very important. The figures are : Good fair, 832 ; fair, 522 ; common, 46; total 1400 bales.
