CRICKET.
THE FOURTH TEST.
The fourth test test match of the present tour of the Australian cricketers was commenced at ManChester on Monday. Hartigan, Carkeek, Whitty, O’Connor and Macalister were omitted from the Australian team. The wicket was wet and the weather stormy. Noble again beat MacEaren with the toss and elected to bat. The innings produced 147 runs, of which &e long Victorian, Warwick Armstrong, contributed 32 _ not out. Barnes secured five wickets for 56, and Blythe five for 63. The Englishmen’s first innings closed for Ix 9, of which wicketkeeper Lilley scored 26 not out and ' Spooner 25. The Australian’s manager, F. Eaver, bowled splendidly, being responsible for the downfall of eight English wickets at a cost of 31 runs. The weather was dull when the match was resumed on Tuesday, . and the wicket was soft. Rain set -in and stopped play when the Australians had scored 77 for the loss ©£ two wickets.
