FOOTBALL.

The local “rep” team left by this morning’s trainj and at three o’clock this afternoon will be the - “prey” of the Manawatu “reps,” at least, so. says “Spectator” in last night’s issue of the Standard. The local team’s “ burly lock 51 (Hooker) was among the missing when the team left this morning. It is rather unfortunate that .he was unable to make the trip, as he would have held the scrum to-, gether well. The rest ot the local members of tbte team left by the train, and Reihana, Rore and Haeana were to be picked up at Motuiti, Joe and Jeffries, at Oroua Bridge, and Martin wojuld go direct to Palmerston from Rongotea. The only doubtful one'was Smith, of Rongotea, who had not notified the Secretary whether be intended to make the trip or not. However, two or three emergencies were taken, so that they will be sure of being able to . put a full team on 1 the field. The team were to elect their captain in the train, and it is most probable that Jones (?) will be elected to fill the position.

The Manawatu Union have appointed Mr O. Clelahd to referee the game. After the match the team to represent Manawatu against Awarua (Taihape) at Palmerston on Wednesday will be picked. The result of to-day’s mktfch will be, posted up outside this office this evening.
