PALMERSTON LICENSING BENCH.
A TIMED Y WARNING.
At the sitting of the Palmerston licensing Bench yesterday, 11 o’clock licenses were granted. The Chairman, Mr A. D. Thomson, S.M. said: —“The committee desire me to state that in their opinion there are more drunken men about the streets at night who should be arrested. This necessarily leads to the remark that a great many men were served with liquor when they were in an intoxicated condition, and ought not to be served. The committee feel that it is rather hard to be able to tell when a man has had enough, but licensees ought to be experts in the matter, and should be able to know when a man has had enough. They should be careful about the matter, and would find it safer to err on the right side in view of the remarks made by the committee. The matter of serving intoxicated persons with liquor was a serious offence in the eyes of the law, and licensees should be careful.”
