CO- OPERATIVE FREEZING WORKS.
SITE NOT YET SETTLED. A meeting of farmers was held in Martinborough on Tuesday afternoon, to consider the question of co-operative freezing works. There were present:— Messrs F, E. Perry (in the chair), W. J. Cooper (Pahiatua), J. P. Lomax (Hatnua), M. T. Falcolner (Kaituna), T. W. Kummer (Mauriceville), Corrigan (Chairman Nelson Freezing Works), McKewnie (Dryerton), and about 25 farmers in the district, also Mr Milne (secretary pro tem). Mr Cooper stated he could not say anything definite in regard to the support the West Coast would give, but they could not expect support from there it the works were: in the Wairarapa. Mr Bicknell pointed out the advantage of having the works in the Wairarapa. Mr Perry thought the question of settling a site was premature ; the first thing was to get the company floated.
Mr Faulkner said that there were four reliable West Coast men on the provisional directorate.
Some further discussion took place in reference to a site, but the general teeling was that Wellington was the right place for the company to be a success. i £7OO worth of shares were subscribed in the room, and 40 more shares will make the amount up to ,£IO,OOO, when allotment can I e made.
The following names were added to the list of provisional directors : Messrs R. McLeod, J. T. Bicknell, G. Pain, and R. Clephane.
