STRAIGHTENING THE MAIN TRUNK.

Thk Levin. Chamber of Commerce has been resusitated and at its meeting on Tuesday night it got to work with characteristic enterprise on the agitation for the urgent mcessity of straightening the Main Ti unk Line between Levin and Marion. The Chamber passed a similar resolution to one adopted by the local chamber in respect to soliciting the co - operation .of chambers along the route from Wellington to Auckland. Another resolution was unanimously carried as follows :—“ That Mr Newman, M.P., be written to asking him to arrange for a deputation or meeting of delegates from the Levin, Foxton, and Martou Chambers, together with any delegates from the Mauawatu and Horowhenua County Councils and other local bodies that might wish to assist, and that such deputation wait upon the Government urging on them to make a trial survey of the Levin-Marton railway, or otherwise declare if their intention is to allow the line to be constructed by private enterprise.” With the Foxton, Martou and Levin Chambers acting in concert backed up by the moral support of the local bodies and sister chambers along the route, there is every prospect of the work being hurried on.
