LAND DRAINAGE ACT.

SUGGESTED AMENDMENTS. The chairmen of the various district Drainage Boards met at Palmerston on Thursday, to consider suggested amendments to the Land Drainage Act of 1908. Mr Gower (Moutoa) presided, and there were also present Messrs C. Collis (Aorangi), S. Sanson (Manawatu), Kendall (Sluggish River), and Armstrong (secretary). A subcommittee, which had previously considered the matter, suggested the repeal and amendment of certain Sections of the Eand Drainage Act, 1908, and also suggested rating on an acreage basis. The commute considered it a more equitable system than on a valuation basis. Mr Collis moved and Mr Gower seconded, that the recommendation of the sub-committee be adopted. The motion was carried unanimously. Messrs Armstrong, Sanson and Greig were appointed a deputation to place the recommendations before the Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. D. Buddo), and Dr. Findlay (Attorney-General), and it was resolved that Messrs D. Buick, Newman, and Feild, M.P’s be invited to introduce the deputation.
