BOROUGH WATER SUPPLY.
RIVER WATER TO BE SUBMITTED for analysis. At Tuesday night’s meeting of the Borough Council, a letter was received from the Foxton Chamber of Commerce forwarding the resolution passed at a meeting of the Chamber: “That the Borough Council be asked to forward a sample of the river water to the Government Analyst for a report as to its suitability or otherwise after filtration for domestic purposes.” Cr Stiles said the Council would have to look a little ahead. They would eventually have to deal with the matter of a borough water supply. He thought this would be a step in the right direction. They could discuss the different schemes later on, Cr Jenks said that at the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce the Rev Mr Aitken had instanced several similar places in Australia, where the river waters had been used after filtration. It was due to his recommendation that the resolution was passed. Other councillors voiced the opinion that it would be a step in the right direction. The following resolution was carried unanimously : Proposed by Cr Stiles, seconded by Cr Frankland, “That in view of a water supply being established in the borough at a later date that this Council forward a sample of water from the Manawatu River to the Government Analyst with a view to seeing whether after filtration this water could be utilised for a household supply for the borough*”
