FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The last general monthly meeting of the Foxtou Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. Present: His Worship the Mayor (B, G. Gower Esq.), and Crs Coley, F. Franklaud, Jenks, Stiles and White.
The minutes of the previous general and two special meetings were read and confirmed.
Correspondence was read from Palmerston North Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, advising that the Council’s proportion of the levy for Infectious Diseases Ward, amounted to £5 ns gd, but the Board had decided to only collect 3-sths of that amount at present, also that the levy on the Council on account of Hospital and Charitable Aid was 6s 6d in the thus making the Council liable for is 4d, which was payable in equal instalments in the months of May and November. From Messrs Moore and Barnard, advising that the application for the transfer of the Manawatu Hotel from Philps to Shadbolt had been withdrawn, and asking for a refund of the £2 paid to the Council.—Granted.
From the Returning Officer, enclosing account of receipts and expenditure in connection with the recent Licensing Committee election, and forwarding cheque for £4 16s 6d, being amount unexpended. From the Railway Department, stating that the gravel ordered by the Council would be forwarded as soon as wagons are available.
From the Treasury, advising that the first and final payment of on account of loan for repairs to Whirokino Bridge had been remitted.
The Inspector of Nuisances reported that the borough was in a fair sanitary condition. The Overseer reported on work done during the previous month, and also suggested certain work to be carried out during the present month.
Accounts amounting to ,£584 os 8d were passed for payment. The letter from Messrs Coley and Bock and D. Purcell, asking the Council to erect a fence between the reserves occupied by them, which had been held over from last meeting, was dealt with. The Town Clerk produced the conditions under which the properties were leased, which stated that the lessees must keep the fences in good repair, and hand same over at the termination of their leases to the satisfaction of the Council.
It was decided, on the motion of Cr Stiles, seconded by Cr Fraukland, that in answer to the application made for repairing fencing on Reserve, that the lessees be reminded that the terms of the lease require the lessees to keep same in order. The Mayor stated that a new culvert was required in Russell Street on the boundary of the borough and the county, and that he had arranged to have the work done and to charge th; county with two-thirds of the cost.
The Mayor brought up the question of metalling the streets that had been recently formed. The loan would be available, and the streets were in good order for metalling, and he considered the work should be gone on with while the weather was good. He thought that the Palmerston metal would be the most suitable. It was decided on the motion of Cr Franklaud, seconded by Cr Stiles, that the metal required for the streets be ordered at once.
Proposed by Cr Franklaud, and seconded by Cr Stiles, that a summons be issued by the Council for the half share of fencing due by Mr Tange for the erection of fence between his property and the Council Chambers. —Carried. The Council rose at 9.30 p.ra.
