S.M. COURT.
QUARTERLY RETURNS. The following are the local S.M. Court returns for the quarter ended March 31st: — Total number of sittings 22, four presided over by the Magistrate and 18 by Justices. Ninetyeight civil cases were heard; aggregate amount sued for, 10s 2d ; amount recovered, ,£431 18s Bd. One order was made ; 109 plaints were issued ; 13 distress warrants; nine judgment summonses ; two orders made on judgment summonses, and one warrant of committal. Ninetyeight summonses were served by the bailiff within two miles, and 58 over two miles ; two warrants of committal were executed by the bailiff. Amount paid in civil fees,, £3* 10s. Criminal: Thirty-four males and three females were taken into custody, summoned or apprehended ; one case was dismissed on its merits; 29 males and three females were summarily convicted ; fourteen males and two females were fined ; one male was peremptorily imprisoned ; orders were were made against eight males and one female ; six males were convicted and 8s was paid in tees and fines, Ten Old Age Pensions were granted, and one is pending.
