CORRESPONDENCE.
[to the editor.] Sir, —The township is at present suffering from a peril, being without a firebell to announce a conflagration. The culprit' who is responsible for it is our wellknown citizen answering the name ot “ Mokeyana.” People will have no difficulty in recognising his identity, as on more than one occasion they have heard bis voice running in a musical scale from soprano to basso profundo. Some folks (names unknown) interviewed this person one evening last week, and put him in charge of the fire-bell tower, and to prevent him deserting that important post, securely tied him up with the rope which connects with the firebell. The result was that now and then it gave out a faint tinkle, not sufficient to rouse the sleeping population. Those who did hear, - however, came out, but seeing no glare, went back to their bunks. Finally “ Mokeyana ” succeeded in fastening the bell upside down, consequently, to ring it now is utterly impossible, as anyone will see when passing the bell tower.—• Yours etc,, Alarmed.
