ACCIDENT AT MOUTOA.
; An accident of a very serious nature' happened to Mr J. A. Smith, the well-known settler of Mputoa. at his farm yesterday. Hr " appears that he opened a gate in order to allow his horse and cart to pass through. In an endeavour to grasp the reins or jump into the cart, he fell and the wheel passed over his body. Luckily the cart was empty. There was no one with Mr Smith at the time of the accident but one of the sons seeing the horse unattended surmised that .«=omething was wrong, and updn investigation found bis father lying in a semi-unconscious state. The 'injured man was re—s moved do the house and medical / aid procured. It was ascertained that several ribs were broken and that M r Smith was suffering from shock. ‘ Thei full extent of the injuries havs not yet been ascertained. Upon inquiry this morning we learnt that Mr Smith passed a fairly good night and hopes are entertained that the injuries are not so serious as was at first anticipated. ■ However, it is reported that he is not yet out of danger.
