THE HEMP GRADING REGULATIONS.

The amended hemp grading regulations have been gazetted. The principal alterations, apart from the provision for the grading of tow, is that hemp bales may be bound with either hemp or tow bauds, a concession which will be greatly appreciated by millers. It is provided that if tow ropes are used their total weight per bale shall not exceed 31b for five bauds, or in proportion. It is stipulated that all bales of hemp, tow or stripper-slips must be of the following dimensions and weights: Hemp, 4ft long, 2ft wide and 4cwt in weight; tow, 4ft long, 2ft wide, 3ft deep and 224 cwt in weight; stripper - slips, • the same as tow. No bale of hemp shall contain a hank exceeding 51b in weight. It is pow declared that in the case of short fibre the grader shall insert the words “ short ” or ‘' very short ” on the grade certificate. The charge for grading hemp, tow or sfripper-slips is to be cwt or part of a cwt. but no charge is to be made for grading whei the pric£ of hemp free on is ,£25 per ton or over.
