FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A special meeting pf the Foxton Borougjh Council was held last night to receive tenders for sinking artesian bore and carting. Present: His Worship the Mayor (B. G. Gower, Esq.), Crs Hennessy, Frankland, Jeuks, White. Baker and Coley. No tenders were received for sinking the artesian bore, and it was decided, on the motion of Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr Hennessy, that the time for receiving tenders for well-sinking be extended to 11 th January.
Tenders for carting were received from W. Nye, at 14s for single dray and driver, and 20s for two drays; from Jackson and Swift at 15s for single dray and driver, and 20s for two drays. Resolved to accept W. Nye’s tender, on the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr Baker. A letter was received from Mrs Howe, offering to sell the Council a piece of her land, one chain wide, for the purpose of making a street to connect Frances and Reeve Streets, for the sum of As it would be necessary also to purchase a portion of Mr Brewer’s property to connect t hese streets, and his offer had not been confirmed ii\ writing, it was decided to let the matter stand over until same was received.
Messrs Moore and Barnard wrote advising that they had perused the documents re concession to Gas Company forwarded to them, and they would advise the Council before signing to add a proviso: “That the consent is without prejudice to all existing and future rights and remedies of the Corporation in respect to anything done, omitted, or to be done or omitted in any way in ‘relation to the agreement of the Bth April, 1907, and generally in relation to the said agreement in all respects as if this consent had not been executed,” and in reference to the £SO deposit in dispute they considered it would be sufficient if a clause were added to the endorsement and the deed : “ That the Council’s consent is given without prejudice to this right to retain the deposit.” They also noticed that an agreement dated the 4th May, 1907, had not been sent, and if there was no particular reason ior hurrying the matter, it would be as well to ask for the inspection of the missing agreement. It was proposed by the Mayor, and seconded by Cr Baker, That a copy of Messrs Moore and Barnard’s letter and endorsement be sent to Messrs Herdman and Kirkcaldie, and also ask them to forward the agreement of May 4th, 1907, referred to. — —Carried). The matter of drifting sand in front of the N.Z. Shipping Co.’s shed was discussed, and it was resolved, on the motion of Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Jeuks, That the manager ol the N.Z. Shipping Co.’s attention be called to the sand drift opposite their shed caused by their removal of hill, and request that steps be at once taken to have same metalled as per arrangement with the Council.
