EMBEZZLEMENT.

Invercargill, November 26. Reginald Day, late secretary to the Southland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, who was arrested on the West Coast recently, was charged at the Police Court to-day on five counts of having embezzled the funds of the Board. The amount involved is I 9 S lo d> made up variously of sums received for re.it of the Board’s property, for sale of the Board’s laud received as a legacy, also sums donated to the Board from a deceased person’s estate, and certain moneys paid into Court for the maintenance of illegitimate children in charge of the Board. The defalcations have extended over four of five years. The hearing occupied all day, and accused was committed for trial.
