THE NO-LICENSE POLL.
As we have stated elsewhere in this issue, the No-License party made a poor showing on Tuesday last, so far as Foxton is concerned, and although we can’t congratulate “ the trade ” upon their success, we nevertheless admire their splendid organisation and the energy they put into the struggle. Their vehicles plied hither and thither bringing in supporters, previously canvassed and carefully ticked off on the rolls. , Not a vehicle was out for the No - License party. What a contrast! If No-License is to be carried next election, lethargy must give place to energy, and individual effort and organisation must be the recognised essentials to success. The licensed bars are on their trial for another three years, and those who voted continuance must claim the fruits of their choice.
** ■ * Our readers will pardon us for saying something just here of a personal nature : For the stand the editor of this journal has taken he has been subjected to certain threats of boycott—even to the establishment of an opposition paper.—Ye gods! We have fought, and will continue to fight the licensed bars on principle—with the licensees we have no quarrel. If, however, “moneybag” attempts to crush us, we can assure our readers it will be a fight to a finish, for we will never strike our colours. We have stood for what we consider to be in the best interests both morally, physically, and financially, of our fellow creatures, including the boys and girls, and we are content to leave the future in the hands of an enlightened community. •
