A fine opportunity will be offered to anyone requiring a purebred white Leghorn rooster for next season, at the Auction Mart on Saturday next, when a fine line will be submitted for sale, also some white Pekin ducks.
A meeting of all those favourable to the candidature of Mr Newman, is called for this evening at 8.30 o’clock in Mr M. Perreau’s rooms for the purpose of setting up a committee, and.to make final arragements re polling day.
A live kiwi is a rara avis nowadays, but one was discovered in Mr C. E. Daniel’s timber yard in Masterton a few mornings ago (says the Age). It was attacked by a dog and killed before the employees were aware of the species of the visitor, and naturally there were general regrets at the lost opportunity of obtaining a specimen of native bird life supposed to be almost extinct. One of the employees has had the body stuffed and preserved.

All commit) ees are requested to re-organise and make arrangements to have electors conveyed, where necessary, to the polls. Every liberal elector is earnestly requested to roll up at the poll and record his or her vote.
On the day of General 'Booth’s arrival at Johannesburg the local Jewish Chronicle published an editorial of welcome and awarded the General the weekly “cake” offered by the paper to celebiities of the hour. The “ cake ” was brought to the General by a representative of the Chronicle, who said; “Our religion teaches us that it is better to be a good Christian than a bad Jew —that the just will find a place in heaven whatever their religion may be, so long as their lives are right; ” to which the General replied : “ Quite right; live up to your religion, but if it does not help you to reach your ideal, why, try mine.”
