FOXTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The usual monthly meeting of the above was held on Thursday evening last. Present: Messrs Hornblow (chairman), Rev. G. K. Aitken (secretary), Betty, Bullard, Read, G. Coley, M. Perreau, Henderson, and Heunessy.

Correspondence of a formal nature was read and received from the Education Board, and outward correspondence adopted. The headmaster’s report showed the average attendance during the past five weeks as follows: 227, 208, 233, 234, 237 ; roll number, 278. The attendance at the technical classes has been : Millinery, five pupils ; dressmaking, five ; arithmetic, two. Fees paid, £9 os 6d ; fees outstanding £2 4s.

Requirements; One dozen dusters, four roller towels, two towel rollers, four enamel drinking cups, rope for school bell, broken window, repairs to clock. The visitors reported that the school cleaning was not satisfactory, and directed attention to other minor matters.

The headmaster submitted fresh specifications for school cleaning. The reports were received.

It was resolved to make application to the Board for a grant for certain school requisites. The Secretary reported that, there was a bank deficit, and that the quarterly capitation would not be available till the beginning of October. —A discussion took place as to raising funds to meet necessary expenditure, and a school concert was suggested, but nothing definite was decided.

The matter of requirements, repairs, etc., were left in the hands of the visitors for the month, Rev. Aitken and Mr Read.

Disappointment was expressed that more pupils were not attending the technical classes. It was pointed out that the Committee had done its part in trying to put the school on a good footing, and it now only remained for those who required instruction to attend. The Secretary was instructed to write to several out-lying schools, in order to ascertain whether they were desirous of sending scholars to the local school if converted into a District High School. It was decided to erect a gate on the western fence.

Accounts were passed for pay' ment, and the meeting rose.
