THE LEVIN-GREATFORD SCHEME.
The Horowhenua County Council on Saturday received a letter from the Levin Borough Council, forwarding a copy of the resolution passed at a recent public meeting, regarding the proposed railway from Levin to Greatford via Foxton. The letter also stated that the Borough Council was of opinion that a deputation of local bodies and settlers interested should wait upon the Premier and Minister of Railways at an early date, and asked the County Council to appoint a delegate on such a deputation in the matter. Cr Venn said that the railway would have to come sooner or later.
Cr Stephenson thought Levin should hold its hand, or it might find itself side-tracked. The new line would come, but it would not be from Levin. He objected to the Council being represented on the proposed deputation. It was resolved, “ That the Council endorses and supports the action of the Levin Borough Council and other interested bodies in reference to the promotion of the construction of the Levin-Greatford railway, and will render all the assistance within its power for the accomplishment of the work.”
