FLEET WEEK.
From present appearances it seems likely that not more than 30 of the 80 members of the Lower House will proceed to Auckland for Fleet Week. A larger number of names was originally handed in, but it seems that a number of members were under the impression that the Government intended paying their hotel and travelling expenses. Finding such was not the case, several are dropping out of the list. There is, however, some talk of a deputation to the Prime Minister on the subject, the opinion being expressed that as members will in a sense be the Ambassadors of New Zealand on a notable international occasion, the country should pay all their expenses. The train, according to present arrangements, will leave Wellington at xo p.m. on Friday, August 7th, traversing the interesting central section of the Main Trunk line during the daylight. The excursion from - Auckland to Rotorua commences on Wednesday, 12th August, giving the American visitors a full day in New Zealand’s Wonderland, enabling them to return on Friday. The Parliamentarians return to Wellington on the following Monday.
