Anglo-Welsh v. Auckland.

The above match was played at Alexander Park, Auckland, on Saturday. Glorious weather conditions prevailed'. Some 20,000 spectators attended. The ground was dry and the game was fast and fairly interesting. Britain was without the services of several of her “cracks,” through injuries. In the first spell, Hayward scored for the home team. In the second spell, Herring and Murray crossed the British line, the game ending Auckland 11, British nil.

At the dinner to the teams on Saturday, Mr Devore, President of the Auckland Union, said that if the international visits came too close they would lender to produce a sameness of play. What was wanted was for each end to develop a style of its own which was impossible with frequent tests. Mr Harding said that although beaten badly they could promise New Zealand a good go next Saturday. He congratulated the Auckland team for their clean good display of honest football. They were led in the South to believe that they were going to get a pretty warm time from the teams in this part, but while the last two had been willing they were most enjoyable.

At Christchurch on Saturday, Canterbury defeated Wairarapa by 15 points to five. Wairarapa meet Otago on Saturday at Dunedin, and Mauawatu meet Taranaki on Thursday. Kia Toas drew with Feilding at Feilding on Saturday. The Hankins Shield thus goes to Fielding this year. Old Boys defeated Palmerston by 17 points to 3. The senior match, Albion v. Awahou, was played on Saturday, and resulted in a win for Albions by three points to nil. This win for Albions secures them the banner for the season, they having won five matches and lost one. Mr F. Woods refereed. The Albion v. Awahou Juniors resulted in a win for Awahou by 14 points to 3. Tries were scored for the winners by Alzdorf (3) and Martin (1). One of the tries was converted. Kerry was responsible for the try for Albions. Mr O. Cook refereed.

The third-class match, Albion v. Awahou, resulted in a win for the former by 14 points to nil. This competition has been a romp over for Albions, they having scored 59 points (to nil) in three matches. Mr P. Robinson refereed.
