THE PROPHET RUA.

The Prophet Rua, arrived in Wellington on Wednesday, and many were the curious eyes that turned round to watch him as he passed, for his dark flowing locks and calm tranquil expression make him conspicuous anywhere., Rua does not speak English very well, but what English he does use is clear and almost devoid of accent. When a Dominion reporter went to see him, he had a complaint to make. “ Too much te paper—too much te paperNepia, te paper, other place, te paper, too much.” He proceeded to explain what he made the pilgrimage for the development of the gold in the Urewera country and the necessity for roads and schooling.

The reporter inquired if he had seen the Native Minister,

The reply was in the affirmative, and the reporter gathered that Mr Carroll had told the Prophet to wait a while till he consulted the Cabinet. ‘‘He te good man,” said Rua.
