FOXTON OPIUM SMOKERS.

At the Palmerston Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Ah Kum, Ah Sbung, and Ah Yung, who were found in the possession of opium, at Foxton on the 15th May, were brought before Mr A. D. Thomson, S.M. Ah Kum and Ah .Shung both pleaded not guilty to charges of smoking opium and having it in their possession. Ah Kum and Ah Yung were each fined £2 and 14s 6d costs for having opium in their possession, and Ah Shung £2 and costs 14s 6d for having opium in his possession, and 7s costs for smoking. Mr Reade appeared on behalf of the opium smokers, and Sergeant Stagpoole prosecuted.
