THE PALMERSTON MAYORALTY.

We notice that Cr J. A. Nash has consented to stand as a candidate for the Palmerston Mayoralty. There are now three candidates out. The present Mayor seeks reelection as a test of confidence, while he possesses plenty of energy, js inclined to. overrun himself—and fall foul of entanglements, but he has a big following. Cr Haydon is prepared to test the feelings of the ratepayers, and his recommendations are jfaithfpl services at the horseshoe table; but the candidate that Foxton is particularly interested in is Cr Nash, who in our

opinion should fill the bill at the present juncture, to perfection. He has a genial manner, is diplomatic, has a thorough knowledge of finance and Palmerston’s requirements, and withal is a stickler for discipline in debate, He is a busy man and has not made up bis mind hastily, but now his hand “is on the plough,” his opponents will require plenty of pace to keep beside him.. The main issue of the election will be the question of confidence or no confidence in the present Mayor, and it is a pity the issue could not be fought out between Mayor Kssex and Cr Nash.
