BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Meeting of Works Committee A meeting of the Works Committee of the Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last evening. Present: His Worship the Mayor, and Crs Coley, Gray and Hennessy. It was decided to re-form and metal the following streets; Hetta, Gladstone, Futter and Riddell Streets, and Ravensworth Place. It was decided to approach the Manawatu County Council to ascertain whether their road grader was available, and to call tenders for metalling the above streets. Failing the services of the grader, it was decided to call tenders for formation as well as metalling. Dealing with sanitary matters, it was decided to increase the salary of Mr Kirste to per week in order to enable him to obtain the services of an assistant. Dealing with the question of stock being herded and grazed on the streets within the borough, which, it was pointed out, was being done, in defiance of the bylaws and warnings of the ranger, it was resolved that the police be requested to see that sub-section Bof section 71 of the Borough Bylaws be enforced. The sub-section referred to reads as follows: “ Any person shall be guilty of an offence who allows any horse or other animal, of which he is the owner, or has the charge of, to be at large or to wander, or to be herded or grazed on any street or public place, or on any land not securely fenced off therefrom, under a penalty not exceeding per day.” Other matters of a minor nature were discussed, and the meeting rose.
