POLICE COURT.
THIS DAlf. (Before Messrs A. Firaser and A. Cock burn, J.^P.) Christian Jensen, \jdth several aliases, was charged jon the information of the policy with committing theft viz. twb cigarette packages the properly o/ M. Littlejohn, of Foxton, tobacconist yesterday. From evidence that was given the accused was caught red handed by Mrs Littlejohn behind the counter helping himself to the articles. She promptly summoned her husband, who locked him in while he went for the police, after, as stated by him, he gave the accused two ozs of choloroform to make him sleep. Constable Woods then took a hand in the proceedings and accommodated him with a night’s free lodging. The Bench fined accused £2, in default 7 days in the Palmerston gaol. The accused pleaded hard for time but as it was shown he knew nobody here his request was refused and went to Palmerston North by the afternoon train.
