CRICKET.

Te Aro (Flaxmill) v. Montoa (Flaxmill).

That cricket is only confined to a few partisans in Foxton is not correct and any person making such a statement, without substantial proof would have been very much surprised at the matcli under the above heading. About a fortnight ago, a friendly game was played between another Flaxmill and the Rope Work’s Employees and we hope before the season is concluded more contests of a similar nature will follow. The park is open at all times to the public, and the local Association give free permission to outsiders to use the concrete pitch put ‘down by them without any charge, so as to enable this noble game to progress. Reverting to the above game the local team went in first and thanks to Jones 18, top scorer, asssisted by useful contributions, put up 64. A special feature was the bowling of the youth Edlin, who by his insinuous, harmless looking, deliveries captured five wickets. Moutoa on going in to bat put together 43. They made a bad start and though the tail showed up respectably, it came too late to avert cefeatbyai runs. J. Walden was top scorer with n. The youth Edlin showed he could also bat but the sensation of the innings was a hit for five by John Knox all run out after a spell of stone walling. Messrs Draper and Nye the respective duties of umpires. No afternoon tea was provided but other canestibles gave satisfaction to the contending parties. Following are the scores:—
