WANGANUI EDUCATION BOARD.

A meeting of the Education Board was held at Wanganui on Wednesday. Present, Messrs Pirani (chairman), Spurdle, Dixon, Bennett, Purnell, Cargill and Fraser.

The following resignations were received : —L. Jamieson (Campbell Street), W. Coventry (Makotiku), F. E- S. Rockel (Toi Toi), A- Lewis (Tokoranga), K. Montgomery (Makowhai). Leave of absence was granted as follows : A. McLaughlan (Queen’s Park), E. Scheldt (Taonui), C. H. T. Bowater (Rongotea), J. G; Blair (Wanganui D.H.S.) Board to grant £ for £ up to £9 15s lor fencing at Foxton. From the Chief Inspector as follows :—ln view of the alteration of the ages-pf candidates eligible to compete for the-Junior and Senior Scholarships, I would suggest that the regulations for the Board’s sdholarships be amended to read as follows: —Clause 2, age limit— For 13 years of age and 15 years of age substitute “ 14 years of age and 16 years of age ” respectively.— Adopted. ..•••’■• From the Chief Inspector as follows Referring to the Minister’s communication re uniform text books for tlje public schools of the Dominion, I have to state that fn the opinion of the inspectojjj&jpf this district it is both desirable and feasible to have uniform readers under the following conditions Sfr! (1) That in all the schools ttf the Dominion the pupils receive - promotion atthe end of the year ; (2) that the contents and get-up of the books be approved by a committee of teachers and inspectors ; (3) that the books be changed periodically, say once every five c r six years. It is considered that in the meantime the teacher should not be absolutely restricted respect to other books.’—Adopted.
