THE POST OFFICE.
Resolution to be Forwarded to Mr Stevens.
“ That this Council would esteem it a favour if Mr John Stevens, M.P., would inform them what steps, if any, the Government has taken to give effect to the erection of a new Post Office in Foxton, for which the sum of was voted by Parliament last year.” This resolution was moved by Cr Hennessy, and seconded by Cr Stiles at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council, and carried*unanimously. Cr Shadbolt did not think /1000 would be sufficient to erect a building to suit the requirements of Foxton, seeing that the Borough Council Chambers had cost £l 2oo.—Cr Baker expressed surprise that an old township like Foxton should be treated with such scant consideration by the Government when other places of less importance had been provided with up-to-date buildings.— The Mayor said that the placed on the estimates might possibly be the first instalment of a larger sum for the purpose. The. Council should be in a position to know what the intention of the Government was in reference to the erection of the post office. No doubt the member for .the district I would be able to supply the Counf cil with the information,—Cr I Hennessy said Mr Stevens would \ be in Foxton on Wednesday, and suggested that he be waited upon by Councillors. —In all probability this course will also be adopted.
