THE RACE PROBLEM.

, [Contributed.] To European colonists who have not studied the degrading influences of contamination between the white and yellow races, at a time when the air is full of warnings regarding the incoming of theAsiatic, a few lines of advice to New Zealanders may not be out of place. For ways that are dark the heathen outstrips the European at every point, although we in this Dominion of the South have not fortunately got a large Asiatic, population j at the present time. Judging from recent press reports concerning the movement of Eastern peoples, it appears to be the paramount duty of every person that respects and intends to uphold the dignity of this country of their adoption, to use every means in their power to preserve the purity of the race, for it is beyond question that any intermixing ol the yellow races is. certain to bring about the deterioration of the dominant race. An agitation has been carried on in the southern portions of the North Island for some time past, tor the purpose of commanding the attention of the people on this all-important subject, and to rouse parents to a sense of the duties and responsibilities they owe to their children, to keep them tree from the degradation that most assuredly follows in the wake of fusion with the Asiatic. A recent cable points out that the Home Govetnment has practically admitted the right ot the selfgoverning colonies to deal with the question of Asiatic immigration in the way they choose. Sildht ; sentiment is of little service fo the governments of any country, as a means to act and legislate upon. A true reflex of the minds and opinions of the masses of the people can only be attained through a perfect system of organisation, and this seems to be the object of the present ' movement in New Zealand.
