CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
A special meeting ot the Council of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce was held in Mr P. H. RaeHoward’s office last night. Present : —Messrs P. Hennessy (Chairman), Dr. Mandl, M- H. Walker, Rimmer, Alex. Ross and P. H. Rae-Howard (Secretary). A letter was received from Mr G. W. Morgan, resigning his position as President of the Chamber. On the motion of Messrs Walker and Ross, Mr Morgan’s resignation was received with regret and Mr P. Hennessy (Vice-President) was unanimously elected President. This left the Vice-Presidency vacant and also a seat on the Council. Dr Mandl was elected to the former position and the President took occasion to refer to the interest and enthusiasm displayed by Dr Mandl in reference to the Harbour Board Board question. Dr. Mandl, in reply, said he would rather a local business man of longer residence fill the position. This objection, however, was not upheld. Mr J. K. Hornblow was elected to fill the vacancy on the Council. The Council then went into committee in reference to Harbour Board matters, and a lengthy discussion took place on the information and data that been collected by the Chairman and other members. It was finally decided to embody this in a report to be presented to the Chamber at a future meeting to which the general public will also be invited. Mr Rimmer referred to the necessity for the erection of a suitable public building for entertainments, etc., hut the subject was held over for a subsequent meeting.
