SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the above was held in the library bn Thursday evening last. Present: Messrs L. W. Wilson (Chairman), Baker, Betty, Henderson, Hennessy, Levett and F. W. Frankland (secretary). Tne Chairman explained that Mr Amos, director of technical education to the Board, had resigned and that his successor would not arrive from England till February. Messrs Henuessy and Baker urged that this fact should not be allowed to stand in the way of forming classes locally. It was resolved that the matter be referred to the Inspector for his advice and that the Chairman and Secretary on receipt of reply take what steps they think necessary in the matter. Several accounts were passed for payment. Messrs Frankland, Wilson, and Levett, who have been collecting subscriptions for the purchase of prizes for the children, reported that their lists had filled well, and with the inclusion of Mr G. Coley s collection, a large sum would be available for the purchase of suitable articles. The Chairman, Secretary, and Messrs Hennessy and Levett were appointed a sub-committee to select the prizes, and to meet at Levett’s store for that purpose on Monday next, at ro a.m. The Secretary was instructed to procure a list of names of successful and deserving pupils from the headmaster. Mr Levett moved, aijd Mr Baker seconded, That enquiries be made as to the state of the cadet corps, and ascertain the number of. times the cadets have been drilled since their return from the Christchurch Exhibition.
